Video: How to Prepare for Your Senior Year of High School

In this video, student vlogger Zenavieve walks you through all the important things you need to know to be prepared for your senior year of high school.

Senior year of high school is a lot of different things: it’s college applications, prom, essays, classes, extracurricular activities, and so much more. It can be hard to prepare for so much at one time. Student vlogger Zenavieve has some advice on how to prepare to have a great senior year.

Start a senior bucket list (1:05)

Make a list of everything you want to do academically and socially this year and use it to set goals for yourself ahead of time so those aspects of your life don’t get lost in the rush of senior year. Whether you want to make the honor roll or be more social by going to parties, write your goals down. Visually seeing them every day will make you feel more motivated to accomplish them and more prepared.

Keep your grades up (1:49)

Just because you get accepted to college doesn’t mean you shouldn’t keep your grades up! Finding your motivation can be hard, but if you don’t, your GPA could take a hit. You don’t want your college decisions to get rescinded because you have a case of senioritis. Keep up the pace and do your best right up until the end.

Take pictures (2:26)

Your senior year is going to be so memorable—but it’s also going to go by fast! Make sure to take as many pictures and videos as possible to preserve those memories for a long time. Document different aspects of the application process and when you get admission decisions. Many students like to post those online and spread the excitement of everyone getting into college.

Start the hard work now (3:07)

Determine where you want to end up at the end of academically and start the hard work now. If you want to be at the top of the class, that starts on day one! So make sure you’re putting in the effort now and not trying to rush your best academics during the last two weeks of school. Success is a long-term commitment, not a race. So determine what you’re committing to now and stick with it.

CollegeXpress helped me find the school I am currently attending by consistently sending me emails of other schools. This allowed me to do research on other schools as well as the one I am in now!

CollegeXpress has helped me explore my views on college in that "why do I wanna go to a certain school" way. It’s helped me explore the best fits in all of these outstanding choices. All these college admission counselors can access my accolades showing them how I could help their college. This source of information helps me show these admission directors who I am and what I'm interested in. Thanks to this platform, my experience for education will be better than most, and I'm so grateful for all that it has provided for me.

$10,000 Scholarship Winner, 2021

I first discovered CollegeXpress during my sophomore year of high school while researching colleges that interested me. My SAT prep class the following year further familiarized me with the opportunities available through the organization. CX has personally helped me by exposing me to a diverse selection of schools as well as scholarships and life tips that have provided valuable guidance in my college search.

This scholarship will help me adjust to college life without worrying as much about tuition. This gives me more room to truly explore and benefit from all aspects of higher education. I plan to study Conservation Biology and work protecting species/ecosystems. I’m looking forward to getting field experience and seeing firsthand the problems research is solving.

When I started looking at colleges in the beginning of my senior year, I was conflicted about which ones I wanted to attend based on safety, tuition costs, location, academic rigor, and prestige. Searching the internet and getting more questions than answers, I came across CollegeXpress, which made all the steps I had taken look like a minor issue. Everything was summarized and detailed, and I couldn't be more thankful and appreciative.

CollegeXpress has helped me tremendously during my senior year of high school. I started off using the college search to find more information about the universities I was interested in. Just this tool alone gave me so much information about a particular school. It was my one-stop shop to learn about college. I was able to find information about college tuition, school rank, majors, and so much more that I can't list it all. The college search tool has helped me narrow down which college I want to attend, and it made a stressful process surprisingly not so stressful. I then moved to the scholarship search tool to find scholarships to apply for because I can't afford to pay for tuition myself. The search tool helped me find scholarships that I was eligible for. The tool gave me all the information I could ever need about a particular scholarship that was being offered. The CollegeXpress scholarship search tool is so much better than other tools offered, like the Chegg scholarship search. Thanks to CollegeXpress, I was able to apply to tons of scholarships in a relatively easy way!
